The Gar class Grayback was launched without her periscope shears installed. I strongly suspected that it was a Balao class given the configuration of the fairwater and the presence of the periscope shears. Charr was launched on, the Grayback 31 January 1941. This would at least have been more accurate than the caption that accompanies the photo, which lists the boat as the Grayback (SS-208).įor starters, none of the external characteristics in the photo in question match the Grayback.
